Comments: | (a) I think the first part of the proposed note is quite unnecessary. The dictionary is full of these sorts of kana substitutions (b) I see no evidence at all of avoidance of 子供. It gets 284M WWW hits cf 107M for 子ども. These are both interesting comments about 子供, but way beyond the scope of the informative notes system, and certainly not things that should be presented to users before the glosses. |

As best I can figure, it means something like "worth 10 of x" or "as good as 10 of x". A google search for 十人束 turns up 1.6 million results, most of which seem to be followed by some form of "になる", but none has an explicit definition. Also, I wasn't sure which part of speech to use. I looked at the reference page, but couldn't find something that seemed to fit a verbal phrase like this. I put vt because the form requires me to use a valid code. Refs: | Awake magazine (JW publication) December 2011 issue, page 20, photograph at the bottom of the page, showing a Kingdom Hall damaged by the tsunami and then rebuilt. This phrase is clearly seen on the hall's sign in both pictures. Magazine is available in multiple languages at jw.org "Downloads / Digital publications / Magazines / December 2011 / Awake" (it doesn't matter which language you select, they all have the photograph with the Japanese sign on it). |

Comments: | It's a noun, but I think the gloss can be tweaked a little. On Twitter at least, it appears that ヤリモク is now the most popular form, but I'm not sure if that's the case elsewhere. |

Comments: | See, for example, http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/オレガノ and http://www.ootk.net/cgi/shikihtml/shiki_729.htm. Note that some of the google results seem to use 花薄荷 as a more generic name for the Origanum family, so the definition might also include other variants, but I've left it at just "oregano" for now. |
