|
Comments: | Well, the point you are making is plainly wrong, "-chan" is clearly among the suffixes that "yobisute" indicates you're not using. Daijisen says "「君」「様」「さん」_など_の敬称" (my emphasis). Koj mentions 殿・様・さん・君. That doesn't mean we need to include "殿" or さま here, it's not an exhaustive list. The wording you're suggesting doesn't make sense to me either, "even '-sama'" seems to imply that "-sama" would be the least polite of the suffixes listed, when it's quite the opposite. |

Comments: | * Split out “illness” sense from “worry” sense * Link “illness” sense to alt. kanji. It’s debatable whether we should separate 患う/煩う (per our style); it would be as consistent to unify them (with [1] suffer from), and specify a [restr=煩う] on a [2] “worry” sense. I tend to favor splitting, and these are currently split, so I don’t see a strong reason to merge them, but I wanted to flag this. |

Comments: | i think there ~may~ be a difference here: the difference between 'admiration' and 'praise' in english (i.e., the former is a private emotion, the latter is a public action; they're not the same). koj, daijs, gg5, meikyo all support this division; daijr does not (it adds ほめる to the definition of 三嘆). also, a legitimate definition was removed from 三嘆. - so i think there should be two entries: 三嘆;三歎 [さんたん] [1][n,vs] deep admiration [1][n,vs] repeatedly lamenting & 讃嘆;讃歎;賛嘆 [さんたん] [1][n,vs] praise;extolment |

Comments: | i can't speak to ルミナス, but i don't see this being used adverbially in ALC. they have 「速攻で=straight away」, but it's not an adverb there, and the next example makes it clear that they're still talking about a swift ~attack~: 速攻で攻撃する run-and-gun(バスケットボールで) all examples in eijiro are clearly about attacks ----- it's also there as part of 速攻攻撃する, but i'd say it's just forming a compound noun, not acting as an adverb |

Comments: | Also added to 癇癪. I'd like to squeeze "temper tantrum" in here, and the mix of "throw"/"have" in this expression is one chance to do that. (Could xref to 癇癪 with extra glosses too). sankoku's definition is literally 腹を立てる. That seems a bit lacking in nuance. *news* results are all articles about parenting and children. Comments: | While this term is often loosely translated as “comic strip”, it’s specifically a *serial* (which is what the 続き indicates). I think I specifically heard this is the context of a serial cartoon *on TV*, but I’m not sure, so I don’t feel comfortable including that. (As noted at 漫画, the term is sometimes used for animation, and I think this is such a case – a cartoon series/show – but this needs checking). |

Comments: | I mention this on the 待機 entry too but I don't think 待機 is normally used for fixed periods of waiting (like this quarantine is) but a stand-by wait. Is quarantining a period of waiting? Sure, but that's not all it is, it has a specific purpose and also includes various restrictions on movement and behavior. If a translator translated the below mhlw.go.jp use of the word as "waiting time" rather than "quarantine" I don't think they should be working as a translator. |
