Comments: | The currently displayed order of the English entries does not reflected actual usage, given that the English term "intercourse" has become narrower in its meaning over time so that its default meaning (at least in NA English) is now "sexual intercourse", and although this usage is also possible in Japanese, it is by far not the most important or most often encountered usage of the term (this change is similarly to the way "communication" changed: it once included ferries and trains but is _generally_ not used with that meaning any more). I have ordered the English translations roughly based on a subjective impression of frequency - others may feel differently about this order, but in any case "intercourse" should not be put into position 1 in the dictionary - whatever our feelings about the matter as such may be... ;-) |
