Quiet, closing.
The one linked sentence is for the "pause" sense.

GG5, etc
GG5 has in the "distance" sense:
間合いを詰める close the distance 《between oneself and the opponent》
間合いを取る keep one's distance 《from an opponent》.
  Comments:
I think this may be better. Pause should be in its own sense.

格闘技において「間合い」とは、自分の攻撃が届く範囲のことっていう意味で合ってますか?
https://detail.chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/qa/question_detail/q12246035227
「自分の間合い(攻撃が届く距離)と、相手の間合い(攻撃が届く距離)があります。」
間合いの場合は、攻撃範囲全部を指すので、間合いに入るや、間合いの中と言う言葉もあります。

What does "間合いに入る" = 間合いを詰める? mean?
https://hinative.com/questions/4781517
間合いに入る get within the reach(proximity) of the opponent.

I don't think [4] is this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maai
Maai (間合い), translating simply "interval", is a Japanese martial arts term referring to the space between two opponents in combat; formally, the "engagement distance".
The concept of maai incorporates not just the distance between opponents, but also the time taken to cross the distance and the angle and rhythm of attack

間合いに入る とはどういう意味ですか?
https://detail.chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/qa/question_detail/q10272105390
「間合い」とは、何かをするのに適当な距離や時機のことだから、
その距離よりも近づけばそういうことになる。
Google translate:
"Mai" is the appropriate distance or time to do something.
That's what happens when you get closer than that distance.
  Comments:
I skipped this the first time I saw it as a fluke, but then just saw the exact same structure again within a week: 間合いに入る

Hunter x Hunter. Context: Samurai-type bad guy keeping our highly-skilled child protagonists under guard in a room. Samurai blocking the door. Boy stands up to confront...
殺す気って面だぜ。先に言っとくがー
俺の間合いに入ったら斬るぜ. (At this point he adopts a fighting stance, hand on sword handle, prepared to strike if the boy actually walks into his range)
English translation:
"You look like you want to kill me. Let me warn you first. Step into this range, and I'll cut you down".

Frieren, spectating/commenting from a distance as the new warrior they've taken on walks up to face a dragon:
竜の間合いに入った。
I have two English translations:
1. He's within the dragon's reach.
2. He's entered the dragon's range.
(At this point they sort of size each other up/stare each other down for a bit before the engagement)

I don't think it's possible to merge this with [3], as [3] is domain-specific terminology (間合い has an English-language kendo wikipedia page) and the definitions would be subtly at odds with each other. So far I've found this sense can apply to samurai warriors, martial artists in combat, and dragons. The last ref I found suggests a sort of link to [2], as in "the suitable amount of time/distince within which a person could carry out some action [action = strike an opponent]". But I wouldn't think this would fit under [2].

The first ref additionally goes into some discussion on nuance with 間合い in a fighting context( 格闘技) vs. some other related terminology, if curious.

There is no dedicated sense for this in sankoku or daijs. Nonetheless, this seems to be how it's used in a couple of structures (minimally 間合い入る and 間合いの中, but probably some others).

It appears that this reading, 【なじ】, for this compound does not represent an independent word, but merely the root for the verb 馴染む, as well as its derivative noun form, 馴染み. This kanji compound evidently takes the reading of the noun form, なじみ - see the link in References. The verb and noun forms already have their own entries in the dictionary.

Yes, Koj is terribly inconsistent in its use of okurigana. I don't understand the logic either.
Daijr and daijs are usually good guides to what's considered "standard". We also look at n-grams but I don't think 馴染 quite makes the grade.

obunsha says 馴染〔み〕, like shinmeikai.

koj is a mystery to me. Picking some entries with [io] tags from JMdict at random, I see koj has 不服申立て rather than 不服申立, 下読み rather than 下読, and 下履き rather than 下履.

But also, koj has 不釣合 rather than 不釣り合い, and 中入 rather than 中入り. So I'm not sure what the logic is.

That said, I'm not fussed if [io] is used for this entry.
