Comments: | i don't know... we've allowed in some of the "missing を noun+verb" entries as expressions before. i guess that since this one doesn't seem to be particularly idiomatic/common and because of the potential for confusion with 片寄せる it can go? |
|
3. | A* 2011-01-16 10:06:19 Jim Breen <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | Oops. Didn't mean to approve it yet. I have comment from an NSJ: "My take is, that 肩寄せる is simply 肩を寄せる, just -o omitted. So I personally would not consider as an independent verb. 片寄せる, on the other hand, seems independent verb, where kata- is prefix. vt. move things to one direction and make them close together." Full version: http://groups.google.com/group/sci.lang.japan/browse_thread/thread/2edeea5aa68efee2/c867818373d9eb6f?show_docid=c867818373d9eb6f Probably this should be deleted? |

Comments: | is there a ref for this? many hits come from a song lyric that goes something like 「優しいひだまりに 肩寄せる日々を 越えて...」 That lyric also gets hits as 「優しいひだまりに 片寄せる日々を 越えて...」 any chance this is just iK for the new 片寄せる entry? |

Comments: | Re "A lot of those 〜な counts are for など, なん, なら, etc." This is not actually the case. The n-gram counts are based on morphemes, and など, なら, etc. are distinct morphemes. A text sequence such as "猫背など姿勢が悪いと" is segmented as "猫背 + など + 姿勢 + が + 悪い + と" and would not be included in the 猫背な count. The highish 猫背な is probably coming from other sources, some of which I've included. E.g. 猫背なのは is segmented as 猫背 + な + の + は. (I'll close this comment after a while.) |

Comments: | I think we should ideally only include "incorrect variants" that are somewhat common, this one only gets 8,350 hits (on bing), compared to 624k for "訳にはいかない." If it's listed in a dictionary of incorrect Japanese it might of course be worth having, but if it's this book: http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/4883195228/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_STFG qb1G7621X then it seems as if it's based on non-native usage. |

Comments: | the "lsrc" here is japanese, not german. 'Geisteswissenschaften' is in the OED and it is the title of the appropriate english wiki page as well. eijiro and gg5 do have 'mental science', which seems somewhat misleading to me, but it does seem to get some web hits in reference to Geisteswissenschaften |
