I see some usages on twitter. My guess is that people are combining 脇腹 and 骨 and shortening it to 脇骨.
I don't think this is the same sense of "脇骨" being described by daijirin, etc. |

I don't think dated is right. It's not in the JEs or smaller kokugos. Koj gives 類聚名義抄 (a Heian-period kanji dictionary) as a source. Daijs doesn't even have it. It's probably archaic but it could just be rare. I think it's safer to ignore terms like this. I don't like having to rely on educated guesses. |
