I ran across this in a book, and had trouble finding a meaning for it.  Based on context, and on google search results, I believe it means something like "wide open" as in "ぱかんと開いた" or "ぱかんと割れた".

The sentence in which I originally found it was "ぱかんと開いた口のような形をしており[...]" -- which, in context, means something like "shaped like a wide open mouth" (describing a venus flytrap plant - 蝿地獄).
