(a) the explanatory note field is not really for examples;
(b) I do not think 雨は降り or 蛙は飛ぶ are compound sentences. 雨 and 蛙 are not clauses. Something like "明日雨が降っていたら家にいます。" is a compound sentence AFAICT.
