"envious" is not showing up in references. I don't think the case for adding is strong. It would have to a different sense, anyway. |

mk says 口惜しい is やや古い言い方 - and 口惜しい is an rK for くやしい, but of not for くちおしい. Could we split out くちおしい
into it's own entry with a [dated] tag and tag 口惜しい in this entry as rK? |

I'm always amused the way some people
(a) bucket JMdict for its allegedly limited glosses, when often they are more extensive than the commercial JEs. In this case, it was wider than 中辞典 and ルミナス and much the same as GG5
(b) make NO attempt to submit expansions/corrections.
I like Marcus' suggestion. |

Great work!
What do you think about making the first gloss "frustrated (over a failure, humiliation, or injustice)"?
also, does "bitter" by itself work?
google's dic: "2) feeling or showing anger, hurt, or resentment because of bad experiences or a sense of unjust treatment." |

I think the meaning is clearer when the glosses describe the feeling as opposed to the experience (i.e. -ed adjectives instead of -ing adjectives). Adding some context also helps. |

https://learnjapanese.moe/monolingual/
"I can confirm bilingual definitions (especially those from the JMdict) do not capture the true feel of the word. Here’s
an example:
悔しい [くやしい]
If you have been learning Japanese for a few months, you would know this word. And chances are you learned it using a
bilingual dictionary. Let’s look at the bilingual definition.
vexing; annoying
You may think, “what’s wrong with it?” I’ll tell you what’s wrong with it. It’s so vague to the point that it is
literally wrong."
(the author goes on for some length but doesn't actually attempt provide a better translation except "Go through failure
and dishonour and not being able to give up nor forget (about it).")
https://www.fruitfulenglish.com/blog/tomomama_4/
「日本語ならば「悔しい」という一語で完璧に済むが、英語では、まず “a certain mixture of anger and frustration and bitter
resentment (over a perceived injustice to oneself)” というようなことから説明しようとするしかない。これは、アメリカ人として、少
し悔しいと思うけれども、仕方が無い。」 |

Now prog too has
"〔屈辱を感じさせる〕mortifying; 〔残念な〕regrettable; 〔腹立たしい〕vexing, galling,((口)) be mad at oneself"
and 中辞典 also has "vexing, mortifying, regrettable"
so if these glosses don't perfectly capture the Japanese word, it's not really a failure of jmdict.
I'm wondering if there's anything we could do to improve the entry, though? |

Give more nuances; “vexing” is the basic general sense, and it’s often used in varied “annoying” senses. |
