Were the restrictions really 100% right? "〆" is often used
in 締め切り ("〆切り" 90k (b)) to mean "deadline" where the
meaning is derived from the first sense, "tie/fasten,"
rather than "total/sum." that said, daijs says the correct
usage of "〆切" is only the third sense of "shimekiri":
"(「〆切」とも書く)茶入れ・水指(みずさし)・建水の一種で、全体に糸で締めたよう
な筋があるもの。", while daijr says its the 2nd sense: "(「〆
切」とも書く)物事を打ち切って終わりにすること。特に、期日・時限などを定めて、事

I added the sense of "to wear" as it applies to a necktie. I also added "to put on (a necktie)", although that overlaps with "to tie; to fasten", but to me it's a slightly different nuance, because it involves both donning and tying. |
