Verbs like 立つ, 掛ける, etc. are horrors. A bit hard to have a single useful policy. I think we have to do it case-by-case. |

I hadn't realized we had split out 起つ and 発つ as well. I understand the reason why and I understand the advantage of keeping this in a separate entry too, but I'm a little uncomfortable how we don't have a clear policy we're following here. |

As 立つ has 18 senses (and this one is far down the list), I think this entry should be kept. |

We split out 起つ and 発つ, but I agree they're more common. |

I think this being folded into 立つ is fine now that we can tag 勃つ as sK and add a note instead of doing a million restrictions. It seems consistent with what we're doing recently. |

I've proposed adding another sense to 立つ, but not merging this entry in. 勃つ should be kept visible, and that's best done by having it here. |

daijs has "to have an erection" in it's 立つ entry. with the note《「勃つ」と当てて書くこと_も_ある》 |
|
Comments: |
I agree, that's why, to be clear, I'm suggesting to add it as [sK] to that entry, and then a note for this sense, "can also be colloquially written as 勃つ", just like in daijs, and in line with many other entries here. If you search for 勃起 立つ it will be obvious 立つ for erection is more common than 勃つ. |

(a) I think 朝立ち is a bit of a special cse.
(b) we wouldn't add a second irregular kanji form to such a common entry purely on the basis of it's possible alignment with the 10th sense. |

I think it's most commonly 立つ so I think it actually would work. |

I don't think that would work. |

Could we merge this into 立つ as [sK] with a note? |

More colloquial than slang, I'd say. |
