It's not colloquial, at least not any more than the adj-i sense is. I'm not really sure this entry should have two senses (in a
kokugo dictionary, it certainly wouldn't) as I think they mean the same thing in Japanese, only it doesn't work out quite that way

I don't see a problem with adjective glosses. The only difference between 訳が分からない and 訳の分からない is that the latter has to come before a noun. |

I think this is a fair point, although there are cases like in the Eijiro example where it is adjectival. Perhaps we need 2 senses.
A similar comment could be made about most の/が + adjective expressions. |
