* Regarding ordering of heads: I was told policy is generally usage (e.g., Google), w/o regards for how it’s listed in dictionaries (i.e., completely descriptive, not prescriptive)
* Dunno how “wrong” something has to be for [iK] – as you note, kotobank (講談社) has it (so maybe not [iK], but just variant), though the headword is 付け焼き.
* This is an interesting example where the commonly-used form and the dictionary headword are at odds (by an order of magnitude).
* BTW, 浸け焼き is also possible (due to 漬/浸 alternation), but looks pretty rare – de we want to include it?
(8,700, vs. 50,000+ for 付(け)焼(き) forms, and 500,000+ for 漬け焼き) (This seems pretty [iK]-worthy if so.) |

In general I don't like "iK" entries going in front of the kosher surface forms (I probably should raise this as a policy question). But is the 漬 in 漬け焼き, etc. really wrong enough to be called iK? Also, is 漬け焼き really the same as 付け焼き. If I saw it for the first tome, I'd think it meant "grilled in pickles". Yes, I see Kotobank says "「漬け焼き」とも書く。" |

Add alt kanji 漬 (漬(け)焼(き)) – marked as [iK] b/c not in dictionaries, but v. popular.
Interestingly, the dictionaries all give 付(け)焼(き) only, but 漬 is much more popular on the web, specifically 漬け焼き and it’s even on the Kikkoman website!
Saw at a family restaurant today and did a double-take. |
