I think the Daijirin entry tips the balance towards making it an entry. It's not a simple "ik" like バッグ/バック.

I'm not 100% convinced it should be a separate entry. I think it's the same thing as バッグ/バック and ドッグ/ドック- in this 
case, it happens to be an entry in daijr as being German-derived, OK, but the regular usage is probably just a 
mispronunciation.

To my surprise, it's not actually irregular. ベット comes from German. Daijr has it. It should be a separate entry.
