I think there's a lot of overlap between daijr' sense 1 
and 2, to the extent I can't come up with anything that 
distinguishes the usage in these examples:
example sense 1: 「インドは暑い国という-がある」
example sense 2: 「 -していたものと実際は全く違った」

I don't understand daijr's sense 3:
③  〘心〙 目の前にない対象を直観的・具体的に思い描いた像。 
「視覚的-」
There's a sentence including "視覚的イメージ" in EDR日英対
訳辞書 where it's translated as "visual image." Not 
immediately helpful.

I think you could make an argument for having a separate 
"reputation" sense: daijs 「企業イメージを高める」, prog: 
"これは我が党のイメージアップになる" but I think that's also 
sort of contained in the current sense 1.
