<upd_detl>Add alt. 送仮名: 向う岸 向岸
(Saw both on signs this weekend, with exactly the same meaning and context.)
* Mark 向岸 as [io] since there does appear to be an on-yomi using term 向岸流 (こうがん・りゅう) and a name with different pronunciation.
* OTOH, 向う岸 is pretty unambiguous – it’s not going to be 向かう b/c there’s no word むかうぎし and semantically, it’s the *facing* shore (*opposite* shore).</upd_detl>
<upd_refs>Many Google hits.
However, 向岸 is also a name, hence can’t judge its popularity.</upd_refs>
