They have appealed to them not to use the same password on multiple services.

I wonder whether "to put to heavy use" was intended as Wiktionary's sense #1.
I think "use one thing for many purposes" or "use something on multiple occasions" (as in the sharing of the dirty needle) seems better for that sense.</upd_refs>
