daijs says something more like "the usurpation of a ruler's position by a vassal." This would seem to exclude children of the ruler. 

This seems to have never been applied to European royalty.  I searched wikipedia for the term, and got a story about A.D. ~700 China. (7 total refs on all of wikipedia)</upd_detl>
