<upd_detl>Here the only "constituent parts" are the kanji. That doesn't make it idiomatic, any more than 魂柱 is.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>I don't think the constituent parts are just kanji - 月並み is a compound of two words, 魂柱 isn't. Surely "leg-pulling" is just as 
idiomatic in usage as "pulling one's leg"?</upd_detl>
