<upd_detl>the second sense I was thinking of was addiction, i.e. 依存
症. one of eij's glosses was "chemical addiction", and the 
wiki article does mention both. (nikk seems to only mention 
poisioning)

the usage here seems to refer to addiction rather than 
poisoning:
