We can't drop the notes *and* make the kanji forms search-only. It's one or the other. 煉る, 錬る and 邌る aren't variant or irregular forms. Given that they're all rare, the notes probably aren't needed.

adding those headwords makes them searchable, but it also would require the addition of a bunch of restrictions. i prefer it the way it was. if those kanji need to be made searchable, we should have separate entries for 錬る/邌る that link here
