I think it's better to define sense 4 as a student then as a class. daijs does this: 幼稚園・保育園で、4歳児。 Interesting we had this sense for 年中 but not 年少 or 年長... The x-ref might help Americans confused by the fact that in the US, kindergarten is just 1 year.
