      I think the additional gloss was also 
      helpful for English speakers. Also, while 
      it's true that JMdict is not primarily 
      aimed at Japanese users, we certainly have 
      plenty of them.

      Gerund glosses can be helpful but I don't think they add anything in this case. A learner will have no trouble translating "彼はアメリカに入国した" as "He entered America" from the gloss "entry into a country".
      GG5, Eijro, etc. are aimed primarily at Japanese speakers (i.e. English learners) so it's helpful to have similar glosses in different forms. We don't really have to do that in JMdict.
