Grounds for a restriction don't seem to be present.
      Restriction not in references either.

      >大辞林's 3rd edition included both kanji, no clue about the 4th though
The fourth edition has only 遇う, though it mentions 配う in a ~と書く note.

遇う isn't in any other references apart from that, tagging [rK].
配う has no kokugo headword appearances at all, hiding.

The previous entry implied this word marked the thing being decorated with を, when in reality it markes the thing being _used_ to decorate with を. ランプをあしらう does not mean "to decorate a lamp" - it means "to decorate (something) using lamps." These changes better reflect this.

This link includes many sentences using this word according to my changes and none according to the previous entry. Some examples:
      それは、青い宝石をあしらった指輪だった。
      そこには獅子と龍をあしらった紋章が刻まれていた。
      表面にラピスラズリをあしらっている。
      箱の中には、宝石をあしらった勲章のような物が入っていた。

OK, I'll put them back and reinstate the "UK" tags. 配う is only sense 2.
