Just from observation it seems to me that it is used for native Japanese terms and concepts (like 生け花), but not for foreign terminology. But I may be wrong.
By that standard it would probably apply here. There isn't a way to search for gloss types, is there? |

I remember we had a discussion about when to add explanatory information to a romaji gloss in parentheses, and when to use a separate [expl] gloss. There are many examples of the latter, e.g. the 生け花 entry. I don't remember what the criteria are for the two approaches.
Can anyone enlighten me? It should go in the editorial guidelines. |
