| Comments: | Without contemporary examples to refer to, I can't be 100% confident about the glosses for sense 2 but "rudiment" and "element" don't fit my reading of the definitions in daijs and nikk. I've tagged that sense as rare but it might be obs. Nikk's example (which is supposed to be the oldest recorded use) is from 1947 but daijr's is from 1877. [embryo] was added quite recently. Feel free to use it. |
