Ten yen coins minted between 1951 and 1958 have reeded edges and are nicknamed Giza 10 (Giza Ju, ギザ10), meaning “jagged 10 yen coin”

10 yen Bronze Coin
(Milled edge) 1951 to 1958
Prominent in the opening scene of anime Re:Zero, with closeup of coin. Seemingly a readily-understood term. |

Google image search quickly suggests relevance
We have an entry for ギザギザ, but not ギザ, so there isn't even a way to construct this from current entries.
"Milled-edge" and "reeded-edge" are synonymous technical terms in coinage. "reeded" seems most common in numismatics for this coin, though mof.go.jp uses "milled". Both show up in ebay entries for this coin.
JP Wikipedia even has a section on the cultural impression of collectability(easy to identify, easy to hunt for, usually valueless in practice). The character in the anime, after identifying the coin, puts it back in his wallet to pay with something else. I'd be happy to have something like ("sometimes considered collectible") in the [expl], but didn't think that would stick. |
