In linguistics, 朝鮮語 is the preferred term for the language. The kokugos redirect 韓国語 to 朝鮮語.

「朝鮮語と韓国語は同じですか」という質問をよく耳にする。ここでいう「朝鮮語」とは北の朝鮮民主主義人民共和国の言語を指し，「韓国語」とは南の大韓民国の言語を指している。しかし，「朝鮮語＝北の言語，韓国語＝南の言語」という図式は，必ずしも正しくない。なぜならば，日本語で「朝鮮語」と言った場合，それは北の言語も南の言語も同時に指しうるからである。「韓国語」についても同様に，南の言語のみならず北の言語も同時に指しうる。朝鮮半島で使用されている言語は実は1種類であり，その言語を日本語では「朝鮮語」とも「韓国語」とも呼ぶのである。現在，朝鮮半島には１つの民族が別々の国を作り，一方が「朝鮮」の国号を名乗り他方が「韓」の国号を名乗っている。それに呼応する形で言語の名称も2種類が通用されているわけである。 |
