Leading note: Image results for the unadorned 窓側 are all airplanes.
I was actually looking for "middle seat", which isn't yet here, and it was the inconsistency between 窓側席(window seat) and 通路側(aisle seat) that caught my eye before noticing that 窓側 was also already in here.
As in English, it seems like "you want the window or the aisle" works similarly to 通路側か、窓側か。 "Seat" is optional but otherwise implied.
窓側 is indeed "window-side". You could use it at a table for a restaurant, it seems. But unlike, say, 真ん中・真ん中の席・真ん中席 (middle seat), the airplane usage seems eminently common compared to other uses. |
