I think 話せる is a better example because it is more frequent in textbooks for foreigners while 言える is more frequent in 学術論文 |

the kokugos say ら抜き言葉 are also considered 可能動詞, but i didn't see any examples
forms like 言える cannot fit into the 動詞＋助動詞 framework, hence the need of the 可能動詞 term
but forms like 見れる can be analyzed as 見（動詞「見る」の未然形）＋れる（可能の助動詞）, so no need of a separate form |
