native informer in her 60s said she'd never heard the word 孫息子 (孫息子言わないよね…孫娘っていうのに). She suggested the default gender for 孫 maybe woule have been male in the past (just a guess, though). Might just be her but daijs, nikk, gakkoku, koj, shinmeikai don't have entries for 孫息子, only 孫娘. (daijr and meikyo have both)</upd_refs>
