<upd_detl>Wisdom has the reading as -じょ, Routledge has both but -じょ is first. 世界大百科事典 第2版 has -じょ only. Wikipedia has both for the 研究所 entry
but it seems most of the articles about research institutes use -じょ and in the Wiktionary entry -じょ is first. -しょ is used for a few foreign institutes for
seemingly no particular reason.
I think the -じょ should come first with freq tags added for both</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>Yes, Japanese WWW sites that spell it out favour the じょ form over 2:1. The few good guides to 連濁 all point out it's irregular.</upd_detl>
