Well, at least *I* don't think of "sorry" and "you're welcome" as *greetings* in English. どういたしまして おめでとうございます ごめんなさい ごくろうさま おつかれさま I think my definition helps to make sense of a sentence like: 迷惑をかけておいてなんのあいさつもない。 (It's NOT "He hasn't even offered us a greeting [salutation] after causing us so much trouble.") Actually, there are other aisatsu, such as those used when departing, like いってらっしゃい and おやす みなさい, which still don't match the definition very well. I don't think of them as "greetings", anyway.
