Re: [edict-jmdict] New field tags for JMdict

For dialects, I think that we should add them as needed.  Wikipedia has a huge list.

Yahoo also hid part of my message for some reason.

Here it is:

> Edo period (we could have tags for different historical periods) [YES. We have

>tag might be useful.

Wikipedia has a list here: History of Japan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Also, the Ritsuryo period? That's not an official period though and it describes a time when a certain system of rule was in place. It's of course more relevant to name that than to say late Asuka / early Nara period.

There are also subperiods such as the Bakumatsu, or the Sengoku era that might be more relevant to certain entries. Or maybe not. The Risturyo is the only exception that I can think of right now.

>about 大和言葉. How useful would that be?

Actually, I think that it's a bad idea. We'll run into controversies about the origin of certain words, and that will involve nihonjinron and historical claims by different countries. It's also outside the scope of a standard dictionary and would require a ton of work. If one wanted to be creative, it would be possible to use lsrc: jpn. Japanese is actually on your list of possible languages.

"misc" certainly. I can see it may be useful to have "kigo", and
possibly "sec-cl". Dunno

The second one (court ladies) is a bit of a narrow category. I agree that it might be too specific. However there are plenty of kigos.
