WWWJDIC server changes
A few changes happening with WWWJDIC.
First, a new mirror has gone public. It's
http://nlp.cis.unimelb.edu.au/~jwb/cgi-bin/wwwjdic/wwwjdic?1C
and is running on a server within the NLP group in the Computing
and Information Systems Department at the University of Melbourne.
Actually it's been running for a few months at a hum.csse... URL
but I've been waiting for a more up-to-date CNAME to be available.
(Part of the reason for bring this one in was to make sure I had an
Australian server ready in case I lost the Monash one. See below.)
Second, the Monash server at
http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/cgi-bin/wwwjdic.cgi?1C
will shortly have the plug pulled. It's running on elderly hardware
and unsupported software, and using a legacy URL (the former
School of Computer Science and Software Engineering vanished
in a reorg about 9 years ago. With it will go my current Monash home
page and associated stuff.
Third, a new Monash site will be arriving (fingers crossed). I'm offered
a self-administered RedHat VM with a basic LAMP setup (the University
doesn't want to have to support staff going outside the corporate CMS,
so the strategy is to toss us a VM.) I don't know the URL yet, nor do I
know if I can get a server-level diversion from the old URL.
Fourth, the old Canadian mirror (ryouko) is now withdrawn. It was limping,
and as William no longer works for the hosting organization, it was time
to stop. The more recent Canadian mirror (ottix) is working, but is only
accessible via IPv6.
Cheers
Jim
