Re: Inclusion of gikun readings in JMdict/Edict
Jim, I do understand and somewhat agree to your points of not including the words I take to be 義訓 in JMdict. They will however appear in a Wiktionary appendix I intend to put together as such, preceded by a thorough explanation of what 義訓 is. As you well know, by nature, 義訓readings are idiosyncratic usages of kanji, and they only become established readings of kanji compounds if adopted by other writers.
Now, back to the discussion of 言 being used with the reading ことば. I have two Kanji dictionaries which list ことば among the readings (I can tell you which ones if you want). This does not however mean I feel it should be included in Edict/JMdict with this reading, as I know it is not very popular to use it this way.
