I also think having abbreviation as a kind of XREF is a good idea ---
overloading one entry with lots of different things just makes life more
complicated.

If we want to show the abbreviation with the main term in the interface, I
would prefer to try and do it on the fly in the dictionary server (I also
think this is the right approach for the 鼬鮫 【いたちざめ; イタチザメ; タイガーシャーク】 (n)
(uk) tiger shark (Galeocerdo cuvier) kind of entries.   In my ideal world,
these would be two entries with and XREF (possibly typed so it was XREF type
"katakana").    Otherwise I find it hard to distinguish in my mind (and
post-processing) between this  and  計算機 【けいさんき; コンピューター】which we currently
don't merge (^_^).
