It certainly terrified *me* when I saw it the first time. I agree
that it's far too complicated for new submissions, but I thought
it might be useful for experienced editors cleaning up existing
entries, particularly the non-English glosses.

I do this sort of thing as a diversion from real work, so I don't
have any ego invested in getting other people to do things my
way. :-)
