One thought that occured to me was to create a page with (essentially)
just one big text box into which and editor can enter or edit an edict
(or edict-like) repressentation of an entry. When the form is submitted,
the entry will be parsed, and diffed with the current entry to generated
the commands needed to make the requested changes to the database
entry.
This is basically how most wikis work. Even though the user has to
make an entry using a markup language, because the language is
simple, there is lots of help, and there is feedback before commiting,
it seems to work.
I have thought about such an approach a few times, and drifted away from it
because of the complexity of the markup. Maybe we need to kick the idea
aound.
At its most basic, an entry really has 3 regions: kanji headword(s), reading(s),
and meaning(s). We could envisage a textbox for each. A simple entry
could end up something like:
Box 1:
絵探し
絵捜し
Box 2:
えさがし
Box 3:
[pos="n"]hidden picture puzzle
Another:
屈折
くっせつ
[pos="n,vs"]
[sense]bending
indentation
[sense]refraction
[sense]inflection
This is a bit like Wikimedia's style. It may well be better than having a myriad
of boxes.
I think I'm starting to like the approach.
