I guess I've always "felt" when using -的 was appropriate, and no-one
has stopped me. It's sort-of obvious when you don't use them.

At some future stage there could be a markup which indicates whether
的 can be added. Timothy Vance in his Power Japanese book on prefixes
and suffixes notes that words that take -的 also take -風, -式 and 非-.
