Future EDICT/JMdict, etc. maintenance system

As many on the list will know, I have been trying to move to stage
where the dictionary files can be edited online without everything going
past me. I have even written some WWWJDIC extensions which partly
go towards that goal.

My long-term goal is to move myself out of the sole-editor role. I'm
painfully aware that I am a bottle-neck, and that the legacy
arrangements if I fall off the twig are not in place. Besides I want to
do other things in what's left of my life.

One of the problems I have getting to that stage is that I am pretty
much fully occupied coping with the corrections, additions, etc.
that are arriving, and hence am finding it hard to squeeze in the
time to do some major development.

Another problem is that my skills in software development are rather
narrow and old-fashioned, and not that appropriate for developing a
complete interactive update system of the type required. I have done
some delving round in PHP, MySQL, etc. and if I had six months of
48-hour days I daresay I could do something, but at present it's seeming
like too big a hurdle.

So my question is: does anyone on this list feel like the challenge
of either developing an online entry/update system for JMdict/EDICT? Or
feel like modifying one of the existing packages (Twiki, PHPBB, etc.) to
achieve that? I know some of the people here have excellent software
skills.

As part of this, I want also to move the project to a new "home". I
won't be hanging around Monash forever, and it has other shortcomings -
old versions of PHP/MySQL/etc. and a lack of accounts for non-Monash
staff. I am in a position to set up a Linux system on a commercial
site and make it the new home. There is enough of a donation flow to pay
for a reasonable virtual system. It could have whatever *n*x setup is
appropriate. I'd probably use one of my collected domain names such as
www.edictfoundation.org or wwwjdic.org.

So, any takers? Any ideas? Comments?

Cheers

Jim
